What is the difference between Haitian vodou and traditional west African religious practices?

I love and respect Haitian people and Haitian culture.

I purchased a traditional wooden african-looking drum that sits 2 feet high and looks like a pot on a pedestal. The base of the pedestal is about 9 inches and the diameter of the drum head covering the “pot” top is 14 inches. The drum head is held in place with an arrangements of heavy black cords that connect covered metal (?) rings around the drum head and and lower down the “pot”. I would appreciate knowing what you think the name of such a drum is but I would also like to know how I can research such drums – pictures, histories, etc.. Any good websites or groups?

In my intro to Sociology class we learned about an African tribe where the men applied makeup and were gossipy and the women were more practical and domineering. Does anyone know the name of this tribe? or the study that this was done for?
I would really appreciate it because I plan on using it for a source in a paper over gender and society. Thanks.
