We’ve composed four pieces for our music gcse coursework, two of which we submit to the examination board. We did african drumming, serialism, ground bass and a song from a musical. I want to submit my african drumming and a song from a musical piece because I did well in them. However, we were told the other day that for our exam we perform two pieces, one a solo piece and one a duet. They said that one of the pieces we perform has to be in the same genre of music as one of the pieces we submit. This means I will have to play either an african drumming style piece or a song from a musical piece. I do not play the drums or sing – I play the piano. This means I have a slight disadvantage because songs from musicals are really simple on the piano so I wont achieve a high grade. Are there any complicated songs from musicals that you can play on the piano? I dont know what to do? I cant submit my serialism or ground bass because I got a B + C in those! I have parents evening in a week so I will have a chance to talk to them about it then but what is your advice?
Thank you
