Q&A: Humanities question about ancient american slavery?

Question by sentriclelaw: Humanities question about ancient american slavery?
Hey, this question is for the critical thinkers.

Do you guys ever think about the fact that our forefathers (by only about 4 generation or 6) actually enslaved the race of african americans?

I only really realize it when i’m out in public, and deep down tell myself that slavery wasn’t just in history books–it really happened and “wtf” was everyone thinking???

Do you guys ever get wierded out by how life back then was like??? Its like you owned people and they literally were your slaves?

Has anybody ever REALLY REALLY thought about it? I feel like its swept under the rug, and history books are mythology, and deep down, it was taken out of context or whatever.

Anybody help me understand please???

I want to know what other people think, that in fact, we humans were so ignorant and had somewhat zero inhibition to slavery?

Answer by rbenne
do think we invented slavery? not by a long shot.

Slavery has been around forever, and is still going on today in Africa and elsewhere. All major civilizations had slaves, all of them.

and as to enslaving the race of African Americans, first of all they were Africans, didn’t become African Americans till the left named them that a few years ago. Secondly no we didn’t enslave them, they did that to each other and the Arabs helped a great deal. The African slave market was up and running before we were around. We were customers later sure, but we sure as hell didnt start it

as to your comment about humans being ignorant by having zero inhibition to slavery, quit thinking like this is the normal times and all history was abnormal. think in the context of history
